Zenith was founded in 1865 by 22 year old Georges Favre-Jacot, who revolutionized watch production by uniting all the watchmaking professions under one single roof. As such he may very well have invented what watch collectors refer to as a ‘manufacture’ today: a watch brand that is capable of producing the majority of the components, most notably the movements, by itself. Highlights of the brand’s rich history include various award-winning chronometer movements such as the 1948 caliber 135, the 1969 El Primero self-winding chronograph, and more recently the 1/100th of a second El Primero 21 and the revolutionary Defy Lab.
